Project: Canadian Reforestation - Climate Community and Biodiversity Standard.
Offset Standard: The Climate Community and Biodiversity Standard (CCBS)
Client: Publicly traded Offset Company
Our client implemented the Canadian Reforestation Project as a land-based carbon sequestration pilot project to mitigate climate change, create employment opportunities for community residents, and create forest ecosystems that will enhance adaptability of the local community and ecosystems to climate change.
The project was Canada's first successfully Validated to the Climate, Community, and Biodiversity (CCB) Project Design Standard. The CCB Standard provides a framework for designing, implementing, and evaluating the success of this project.
Firm Role: Final Author of CCBS Project Document (PD)
CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. was hired to close out a PDD Validation process that had stretched over on a year and six re-submissions before CPS involvement. CPS deployed its international carbon market technical documentation writing expertise to compile, explain and present how the project met the CCB standard and was eligible for crediting. After CPS's final drafting of the project documentation, it was successfully approved on the subsequent Validation attempt.
CPS had the additional role of posting the project on the Markit Environmental Registry and ensuring clear ownership transfer from the project developer to the buyer.
Assignment Date: 2010
Project: The Community Ecosystem Restoration Project (CERP)
Offset Standard: ISO 14064-2
Client: ERA Ecosystem Restoration Associates Inc.
ERA began developing the CERP in 2005 to restore native riparian forest species on degraded Municipal land across the Fraser Valley. The Douglas Fir, Sitka Spruce, Red Cedar, Hemlock and Cottonwood planted are regenerating a stable ecosystem that provides social and ecological benefit, protected for perpetuity. As no applicable Project Methodologies existed to credit this project type, ERA utilized CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc.’s pioneering carbon market technical expertise to translate their restoration actions into verified carbon offsets.
Projects implemented under the resulting Methodology & PDD have since generated over 1 million offsets to 2010, and are slated to create 1+ million more by 2012.
Firm Role: Author of Reforestation Project Methodology/Project Design Document
CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. was hired to author the world’s first ISO 14064-2 Methodology/Project Design Document for the CERP. CPS deployed its ability to integrate the science and policy of climate change to write the ISO Standard-specific documentation that turned reforestation action into offset. Company role continued into working with ERA develop a process to market, sell and broker offsets to corporate, government and NGO clients.

2. Allowing municipalities to access eligible offsets through pooling capital resources for investment into development of emissions reductions projects within municipalities.
3. Pool human resources necessary to quantify offsets generated by these projects to a recognized standard, ensuring credibility of the offset and trust in the process.
4. Maintain the environmental integrity of municipalities’ efforts to meet their carbon neutral commitments.
Firm Role: Business Advisory Services - Carbon Policy Development, Carbon Market Analysis
CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. produced & delivered a program to the CRD containing the following elements.
