CPS to assess offset potential for innovative Canadian financial institution
December 1, 2011 - Vancouver, BC - Recognizing Carbon Project Solutions' unique role of "turning action into offset" in the Canadian carbon market, a notable financial institution has retained CPS to complete a feasibility assessment on an in-house, green banking project. CPS shall work with the financial institution to translate their opportunity into "carbon speak" and author the documents allowing assessment and pre-sale contracting by carbon buyers.
The project is exciting to those in the carbon space, as it would be a BC implementation of the Program of Activities aggregation approach, and apply a widely anticipated Green Building protocol. Project design documentation and Feasibility Study results are expected for February, 2012.

BC Public Service embodies "Think Globally, Act Locally"
July 1, 2011 - Victoria, BC - CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. is made even more proud to be a BC Corporation by the announcement that B.C.’s public service is officially carbon neutral. Through the efforts of the Pacific Carbon Trust and the longstanding work of those in the provincial & international carbon market, an offset system has been set up and operated to create over 730,000 tCO2e of BC offsets used to neutralize the public service's carbon footprint. It is a sterling example of "think globally, act locally".
“From this point forward, every government building in our province will be carbon neutral, and that is spurring innovation in our growing clean-energy and clean-tech sectors and that’s helping create jobs for British Columbians,” said Environment Minister Terry Lake. “By providing capital funding for clean-energy and conservation projects upfront, organizations are realizing savings that can be reinvested in front-line services.”
CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. is proud of its contributions to the development of approved BC offset Protocols, Project Plans and the generation of offsets that contribute to taking BC's public service carbon neutral in 2011 and into the future.

The upcoming Special Edition will be posted here upon publication. You can find the December 2010 Edition on the Canadian Carbon Markets, and insight from a previous Carbon Project Solutions interview with CCBJ attached below.

BC Minister of Environment to Keynote Carbon Management Conference
April 6, 2011 - Vancouver, BC -
The Honorable Dr. Terry Lake has joined the Speakers List at next week's Carbon Management Conference as Keynote Speaker.
As British Columbia moves forward with its new government, important decisions will be made about the shape of climate action in the years to come. With a carbon neutral public service and revenue neutral carbon tax in place, plus an economy-wide Cap and Trade system planned for January 1, 2012, the province is clearly one of the world's leading jurisdiction for climate action.
It is excellent that Minister Lake shall attend the conference, to engage with the Carbon Market and learn about BC and Canadian business opportunities unlocked by such climate leadership.

Joseph Pallant to Chair the Canadian Institute's Carbon Management Conference - April 11 & 12 in Vancouver.
March 24, 2011 - Vancouver, BC - It is with great pleasure that we announce CPS Carbon Project Solutions' Joseph Pallant has been selected as Chair for the upcoming conference, "Carbon Management - Reducing, Measuring and Reporting Emissions, Trading Offsets and Mitigating Risks."
The conference is bringing together a wide range of Canadian stakeholders in the Climate space, from carbon offset firms, to Industry, large final emitters, to government, law firms and NGOs - to take stock of the current landscape, and plan how to move forward with success.
In addition to Chairing the conference, Joseph will be presenting a session on Effectively Implementing and Crediting New Emissions Reductions Strategies. Seemingly always working on a "first of" project, and as the person people call when they have an innovative project they want to credit, Joseph has become an expert in what environmental benefits can be made into an offset, and what might be done with those that can't.

CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. was proud to attend the conference and help build a realistic understanding of how these opportunities can be furthered by the carbon market.
CPS Whitepaper in "Government by Example" by Deloitte & Kyoto Publishing
January 21, 2011 - Vancouver, BC - As a thought leader in the Carbon Market, Joseph Pallant, President and CEO of CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. was asked to write a whitepaper for "Government by Example". This joint publication by Deloitte and Kyoto Publishing has been compiled for US policy makers to expand an understanding of sustainability issues. An initial print run of 15,000 copies shall be shipped Spring 2011.
"Art and Science of an Offset" gets to the essence of what a Carbon Offset really is. For policy-makers to make sound policy, it helps to understand the issues at a deeper level. Joseph's article lays out how the nuts and bolts of carbon calculations are married to philosophical & economic underpinnings to beget this much ballyhooed creation, the Offset.

It's really happening - Stakeholder consultations underway on BC climate regs
November 24, 2010 - Vancouver, BC - Continuing the week's climate seminar focus, CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. attended the BC Climate Action Secretariat and IETA Stakeholder Workshops on Emissions Trading & Offsets. The BC Climate Action Secretariat was apprising stakeholders on the current state and proposed direction for rolling out binding climate legislation. Attendance was focused on high-level provincial carbon market players, government, legal veterans and representatives from companies likely to receive carbon caps in 2012. CPS raised suggestions regarding the imperative of BC taking positive learnings from the European carbon market, and the successful creation of 474,577,444 tCO2e of offsets (Nov 2010 - click link for updated figures) under the Kyoto Clean Development Mechanism through project-specific Methodologies.
Proceedings were very illuminating as to the level of specificity being reached in tailoring greenhouse gas regulations for BC. With the successful repelling of California's Proposition 23, the state is moving ahead with implementation of its continent-leading climate legislation under AB 32. The race is on amongst Western Climate Initiative (WCI) partners to get their rules in place and begin reducing emissions of greenhouse gasses by their heavily emitting industries. Diplomatic credentials, WCI design clout, and green jobs await the winners.

Conference recognizes Vancouver's carbon expertise - Takes it to the next level
November 22, 2010 - Vancouver, BC - CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc.'s Joseph Pallant is attending "The Carbon Landscape: Risks and Opportunities in North America" conference hosted by the University of Toronto, Pacific Carbon Trust and IETA. In recognition of the leadership roles that Vancouver's offset companies have played over the last half decade, this conference is bringing a much higher level of discourse to the city conference scene than previous events. With the likes of Brinkman Forest, ERA Ecosystem Restoration Associates, Habitat Carbon Assets, Offsetters and CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. calling the city home, the conference is in the right place at the right time.
As the Pacific Carbon Trust continues its mandate to engage with BC carbon companies and aggregate offset projects, and The Climate Registry's Canadian regional director agitates for best practices in carbon accounting, you'll continue to hear from Vancouver as it solidifies a role as Canada's carbon project development hub.

BBC Radio Show Launch and CPS Reception on the advent of GLOBE 2010
March 26, 2010 - Vancouver, Canada - CPS Carbon Project Solutions Inc. held a reception for Carbon Market attendees to the GLOBE 2010 trade show in Vancouver, and to highlight this week's BBC/PRI "The World" radio show featuring CPS President & CEO, Joseph Pallant.
Jason Margolis of the BBC in America sought out CPS via the team at EcosystemMarketplace.com, a carbon market publication that Joseph has written a couple pieces for as their Canadian go-to and a forest carbon expert.
It was a lot of fun to work with Jason, and help him put together stories on the Carbon Tax, as well as the vastly more interesting intricacies of the BC carbon market scene. The stories got smushed together in the cutthroat environment of broadcast radio (the piece aired across NPR and on over 750 stations in the US, as well as across Canada on the CBC) and we are left with but a few bon mots from yours truly. Please find audio link at:
